Emergency Outdoor First Aid
1-Day (8 hours) · Level 3
A practical, one-day outdoor first aid qualification designed for people working or spending time outdoors where professional medical assistance may not be immediately available.
This is an Ofqual-regulated qualification, awarded by First Aid Awards Ltd (FAA).
If you’re responsible for others or working in more remote environments, the two-day Outdoor First Aid course may be more appropriate.
Emergency Outdoor First Aid is a recognised Level 3 qualification designed for people working or spending time outdoors where professional medical assistance may not be immediately available.
The course focuses on essential emergency response skills, giving learners the confidence to assess a situation, manage a casualty safely, and provide effective care until help arrives. Training is delivered outdoors wherever possible and is based around realistic, scenario-led learning.
This course is ideal where immediate response and short-term casualty care are required, without the extended incident management covered in the two-day Outdoor First Aid course.
What Happens
The course runs over one day (8 hours total), typically from 9:00am–5:00pm, and focuses on practical, scenario-led learning for outdoor and remote environments.
Sessions are practical and scenario-based, allowing learners to practise skills, ask questions, and build confidence in responding calmly and effectively to outdoor emergencies. Time is spent applying techniques in realistic outdoor settings to reflect the environments learners are likely to encounter.
The course runs in most weather conditions, with indoor space available as needed.
What You’ll Learn
Across the course, learners will cover a focused range of essential outdoor first aid topics, including:
What outdoor first aid is and how it differs from workplace first aid
Scene survey and managing safety in outdoor environments
Primary and secondary casualty surveys
Ongoing monitoring of a casualty
Managing an unresponsive casualty
CPR and resuscitation
Disorders of respiration
Wounds and bleeding
Hypovolaemic shock
