Multi-Year Wild Passport Curriculum
True confidence and outdoor mastery aren't built in a single afternoon. For schools looking to embed outdoor learning deeply into their culture, Woodland Roots offers the acclaimed Wild Passport framework. This is our structured, multi-year pathway designed to follow a cohort of children as they progress through different year groups.
Rather than repeating the same basic activities year after year, pupils return to the woods each term or school year to tackle advanced levels across five core categories: Woodcraft, Shelter, Fire, Nature, and Rope.
Why Shropshire schools commit to the multi-year pathway:
Continuous Skill Progression: Watch a single cohort grow from basic tool safety to genuine outdoor mastery over multiple years.
Measurable Pupil Portfolios: Provides schools with clear, ongoing evidence of personal development, resilience, and teamwork—perfect for your school portfolio and inspection readiness.
Recognised Achievement: Pupils earn progressive certificates as they pass levels, providing a lasting boost to self-esteem.
Flexible School Bushcraft Days
Whether you want to dip your toes in with a one-off curriculum hook or book a short-term skills block, we offer flexible, expertly delivered bushcraft sessions. We work in partnership with schools to deliver:
One-Off Half-Day or Full-Day Taster Sessions: Perfect for a memorable rewards day, an end-of-term celebration, or a specific topic hook.
6-Week or Full-Term Progression Programmes: Designed for a specific class or target cohort to build core confidence and practical bushcraft skills over a half or full term.
What Happens in a Session?
Each session begins with a clear welcome and safety briefing before moving into practical, hands-on activities. Depending on the age, objectives, and timeframe, pupils may explore:
Fire lighting using safe, controlled methods
Shelter building and knot tying
Tool use with appropriate supervision
Outdoor cooking over an open fire
Woodland challenges and team-building activities
Activities are introduced progressively and adapted to suit the confidence and experience of the group.
Mini Medics First Aid Workshops
Alongside our core woodland sessions, we offer Mini Medics, a highly practical and engaging emergency skills workshop specifically designed for children aged 8–11.
Delivered directly at your school, this workshop gives pupils the tools and confidence to handle real-life emergencies without the scary medical jargon.
Children learn how to:
Stay calm and assess a situation safely
Call 999 clearly and confidently
Perform basic CPR and understand how an AED is used
Place someone in the recovery position
Respond to choking and minor bleeding

What People Say About Woodland Roots
FAQs
Are sessions linked to the curriculum?
Yes. Our sessions support personal development, teamwork, problem-solving, and practical, hands-on learning. By utilising the Wild Passport framework, our multi-week programmes align seamlessly with curriculum targets in D&T, Geography, and Science, giving you a structured way to demonstrate measurable pupil progress.
What age groups do you work with?
We work with primary and secondary pupils (typically ages 8–18). Activities are adapted to suit age and confidence levels.
How large can groups be?
We deliver to small cohorts, whole classes and year groups (delivered in rotation where appropriate). Group size is discussed during booking to ensure suitable session structure.
Do sessions run in all weather?
Yes — outdoor learning continues in most conditions. If severe weather compromises safety, we’ll contact you in advance to discuss alternatives.
Can sessions be delivered at our school?
Yes. We can deliver on your school grounds, at a local outdoor space, or at our private woodland site.
Do you offer one-off sessions or longer programmes?
Both. We understand that every school has different needs, so you can book one-off half or full-day experiences, 6-week blocks, or full-term programmes. However, for maximum educational impact, we also offer multi-year partnerships utilising the Wild Passport framework, allowing your students to build on their skills year after year.
How does pricing work?
Pricing depends on session length, group size, location and whether you’re booking a one-off or a programme. We provide clear, structured proposals tailored to your school.
