Our Vision

To connect individuals and communities with nature through practical, meaningful outdoor experiences that build confidence, develop skills, and support wellbeing.

At Woodland Roots, we believe time spent outdoors should be purposeful, well run, and thoughtfully delivered. Our work brings people into natural environments to learn practical skills, work together, and gain confidence through hands-on experience.

Who We Are

Woodland Roots is an outdoor activity and training provider based near Oswestry, Shropshire. We deliver bushcraft courses, outdoor learning sessions, and recognised outdoor training for individuals, groups, schools, and organisations.

Our sessions take place in our private woodland on the Llanforda Estate or are delivered at suitable outdoor sites, depending on the course and group. Everything we offer is designed to be practical, engaging, and thoughtfully delivered in real outdoor environments.

What We Do

We offer a carefully designed range of outdoor courses and training, including:

  • Bushcraft and camp skills courses for adults and young people

  • Outdoor learning sessions for schools and youth groups

  • Team-building and bespoke outdoor sessions for organisations

  • Recognised outdoor training, including Outdoor First Aid

Whether someone is joining us for a short course, a full day in the woods, or professional training, our focus is always on quality delivery, safety, and meaningful learning.

Why Choose Woodland Roots?

  • Experienced, Qualified Instructors
All sessions are led by professionally qualified instructors, including an accredited Outdoor First Aid Instructor. Our team hold relevant instructional, first aid, and safeguarding qualifications and are DBS Enhanced certified where required.

  • Practical, Hands-On Learning
We prioritise doing, not just talking. Sessions are built around active participation, realistic scenarios, and learning through experience.

  • Calm, Supportive Approach
Our sessions are structured and well paced, creating an environment where people feel supported, capable, and confident to take part.

  • Delivered in Real Outdoor Environments
Training and activities take place outdoors wherever possible, reflecting real conditions rather than classroom simulations.

  • Flexible Delivery
Sessions can be delivered in our woodland or brought to your site, allowing us to work with schools, organisations, and groups across the region.

  • Safety and Professional Standards
We operate with comprehensive risk assessments, public liability insurance, and clear safeguarding procedures to ensure a safe and well-managed experience.

  • Sustainability and Respect for Nature
We model and teach responsible outdoor practices, encouraging care for the environment and thoughtful use of natural resources.

  • Recognised and Accredited
Our Outdoor First Aid and Emergency Outdoor First Aid courses are delivered in association with approved awarding organisations.

Health, Wellbeing, and Time Outdoors

Spending time outdoors has proven benefits for physical health, mental wellbeing, and confidence. Our sessions support participants to slow down, focus, work together, and develop practical skills in a natural setting.

Whether it’s learning a new skill, building resilience, or simply spending time away from screens, Woodland Roots provides space for people to reconnect with the outdoors in a positive and purposeful way.
