OUR STORY & PURPOSE

Hi, I’m Tom Wright, founder and owner of Woodland Roots. I established Woodland Roots with a straightforward belief: outdoor learning should be practical, purposeful, well-run, and thoughtfully delivered.

Rooted in traditional bushcraft and hands-on outdoor instruction, our programmes give adults, youth groups, schools, and corporate teams the opportunity to step away from screens, build real-world resilience, and master practical skills. Whether we are lighting fires without matches in our woodland, delivering mobile target archery ranges, or teaching life-saving first aid scenarios, everything we do is grounded in active participation, safety, and calm instruction.

We operate primarily out of our private woodland base on the Llanforda Estate and indoor/outdoor facilities at Treflach Farm near Oswestry, alongside bringing fully equipped mobile setups directly to venues across Shropshire, Mid-Wales, Cheshire, and beyond.

• Uncompromising Safety Standards: High safety controls, full insurance, enhanced DBS clearance, and accredited awarding bodies sit behind every single session.

I draw on years spent exploring, working, and teaching in outdoor environments to design and lead our sessions. My approach combines clear technical instruction with calm leadership, creating an environment where participants of all ages feel capable, supported, and confident to try new things.
