What is Woodland Roots?
Woodland Roots is an outdoor activity and training provider based near Oswestry, Shropshire. We deliver bushcraft courses, outdoor learning sessions, and recognised outdoor training for individuals, schools, youth groups, organisations, and workplaces.
Our sessions are hands-on, well structured, and delivered in real outdoor environments.

Our focus is on practical outdoor learning that builds confidence, teamwork, and real-world skills. We believe time outdoors should be purposeful, well run, and supportive, whether someone is joining us for a short course, a school session, or professional training.

What ages are your sessions suitable for?
Age suitability varies by session:
Bushcraft Half-Day & Full-Day – Adults; under-18s must attend with a paying adult
Cook and Camp (Family sessions) – Children aged 8+ with a parent or guardian
Cook and Camp (Adult sessions) – Ages 18+
Easter Bushcraft Club & Summer Bushcraft Week – Ages 8–16
Bushcraft Birthday Parties – Ages 6–15
Schools & Youth Groups – Age-appropriate sessions designed for the group
Outdoor First Aid – Suitable for adults and young people aged 16+

Do participants need prior outdoor or bushcraft experience?
No. Most of our sessions are designed for beginners and those new to outdoor skills. Activities are introduced progressively, with clear instruction and support throughout.
Safety, Qualifications & Standards
Are your instructors qualified?
Yes. All sessions are led by experienced, professionally qualified outdoor instructors. This includes instructional qualifications, safeguarding training, and relevant first aid certifications.
Do you deliver Outdoor First Aid training in-house?
Yes. Outdoor First Aid courses are delivered by a qualified Outdoor First Aid Instructor with extensive outdoor experience, ensuring training is realistic, relevant, and professionally delivered.
Do your instructors hold first aid qualifications?
Yes. All instructors hold appropriate Outdoor First Aid qualifications, allowing them to manage incidents safely and appropriately in outdoor environments.
Are your sessions insured?
Yes. Woodland Roots holds comprehensive Public Liability Insurance and completes detailed risk assessments for all sessions.
How do you manage safety during sessions?
Safety is central to everything we do. Group sizes, instructor ratios, and activities are carefully planned and adapted to conditions, the environment, and the needs of the group. Clear safety briefings and boundaries are always in place.
Practical Information
Where do sessions take place?
Most sessions take place in our private woodland on the Llanforda Estate near Oswestry. Some courses and bespoke sessions are delivered at suitable outdoor locations or client venues.
Location details are provided in advance of each session.
What should participants bring?
Participants should dress for the outdoors, including:
Sturdy footwear
Weather-appropriate clothing and waterproofs
A refillable water bottle
All specialist equipment, tools, and materials are provided unless stated otherwise on the course page.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Sessions run in most weather conditions and are adapted as needed. In rare cases of extreme or unsafe weather, we will contact participants in advance to discuss options.

Do you offer private or group bookings?
Yes. Many of our sessions can be delivered as private courses for schools, organisations, workplaces, and groups. Dates, locations, and content can be tailored to your needs.
Can I use childcare vouchers?
At present, Woodland Roots is unable to accept childcare vouchers.
Schools, Youth Groups & Organisations
Do you work with schools and youth organisations?
Yes. We work with schools, youth groups, and organisations to deliver bushcraft and outdoor learning sessions that support confidence, teamwork, and practical skill development.
Sessions can be one-off experiences or part of a longer programme.
Do you provide consent and medical forms?
Yes. All participants (or parents/guardians) complete consent and medical information forms prior to attending a session.
Team-Building & Events
Do you run sessions for companies or events?
Yes. We offer team-building experiences for workplaces and bespoke bushcraft sessions for festivals, retreats, and community events. Sessions are designed to suit the group, setting, and objectives.
Online Store & Orders
What do you sell in your online store?
Our online store offers a small, carefully selected range of outdoor equipment, gifts, and resources that complement our courses and reflect our practical, low-impact approach to being outdoors.
Where do you deliver to?
We currently deliver to UK addresses only. We’re unable to ship internationally, or to PO boxes or BFPO addresses.
How much does delivery cost?
Delivery options and costs are shown clearly at checkout. Some products include free UK delivery, which will be stated on the product page.
How long does delivery take?
We aim to dispatch all in-stock items within 2 working days.
Estimated delivery times after dispatch are:
Royal Mail Second Class: 2–4 working days
Royal Mail First Class: 1–2 working days
Delivery times are estimates and may vary during busy periods or due to weather.
Do you deliver to remote or rural areas?
Yes. Royal Mail delivers to most UK addresses, including remote and rural locations. In some cases, delivery may take an additional 1–3 working days.
What should I do if my order hasn’t arrived?

How is my order packaged?
We use eco-conscious or recyclable packaging wherever possible, and all items are securely packed to ensure safe delivery.
