OVERVIEW

The Home Ed Woodland Academy is a structured, long-term programme where home-educated young people build practical wilderness skills, self-reliance, and meaningful social connections outdoors.

Unlike one-off workshops, our Academy operates as a progressive drop-off programme using the nationally recognised WILD Passport curriculum. Under expert supervision, young people learn to act independently in the woods—learning natural risk management, tool safety, and ancestral crafts at their own pace while earning progression badges across 5 core competencies.

THE WILD PASSPORT CURRICULUM

  • Fire Craft: Safe lighting, fire management, and campfire cookery.

  • Woodcraft & Tools: Safe knife work, bow saws, billhooks, and green woodworking.

  • Shelter: Tarp rigging, knots, natural shelters, and campcraft.

  • Rope: Cordage making, tracking, knots, and practical rigging.

  • Nature: Ecology, conservation, tracking, and woodland stewardship.

What to Bring & Drop-Off Policy

  • Clothing: Sturdy, closed-toe footwear (walking boots or wellies), weather-appropriate clothing, and reliable waterproofs.

  • Food & Drink: A refillable water bottle and a healthy snack for break time.

  • Drop-Off Policy: Sessions are strictly drop-off to foster independence and peer group focus. Parents drop off at the Llanforda Estate car park check-in point before 9:30am and pick up at 12:00pm.

  • Does my child need previous outdoor experience?

    Not at all! Because groups are strictly capped at 6 participants, activities are tailored directly to each young person's confidence level. Beginners start with foundational tool safety, while experienced participants progress into advanced projects.

  • What is the WILD Passport?

    The WILD Passport is an accredited, 5-stage outdoor skills framework. It tracks individual progression across fire, tools, shelter, rope, and nature. Each child receives their own physical passport booklet (included FREE with 6-session and 12-session Flexi-Passes!).

  • How do Flexi-Passes work?

    Flexi-Passes give you flexibility. Once purchased, you'll receive a unique code that allows you to select whichever specific dates work for your family schedule across the term.

  • Can I use my Flexi-Pass for siblings?

    Yes! Your unique Flexi-Pass code can be shared across siblings to book multiple spots on the same or different dates.

  • Can parents / guardians stay during the session?

    To encourage resilience, peer teamwork, and focus, the Academy operates strictly as a drop-off programme led by qualified, DBS-checked instructors.
